Ive won many writer's contests as a high school student. I won a talent show here and there when I was much younger. I worked my ass off to graduate high school, literally with blood, sweat, and tears, I succeeded. It was not an easy process, but I made it and could not be prouder of myself for it. Ive read many many types of books and Ive won many readers contests for local things, like at the library.
