Music, humor, family, and work define me. The order I chose for those is unusual, but intentional.
My taste in music is eclectic. I can go from Beethoven to the Red Hot Chili Peppers without a second thought. I have definite dislikes as well. Very little Country music appeals to me, most Rap gives me a headache, and I've never had enough trouble with insomnia to try New Age music.
Humor is a part of me every day. Sometimes as a remembered popular culture reference, sometimes as a dry comment that people catch five minutes after I've said it, sometimes an irrational non-sequitur that just seems to pop out unexpectedly. I enjoy watching stand-up comedy or listening to a good joke (or a bad joke if its told well enough) and often laugh out loud at the TV when the jokes come quickly. (On that note, The Daily Show with John Stewart really IS the most important television show ever.)
I'm divorced and have a wonderfully strong-willed daughter. She's also 16 years old, so she thinks I and all other adults are idiots and she's a genius. She lives with her mom most of the year, which is the only reason family isn't first on my list.
By training, employment, and temperament, I am a Chemical Engineer. Right now I work to help make paper white (more information on request, but it isn't exciting).
Easily my most important accomplishment, though I have to give credit to God, fate, and the ex, is raising a daughter who has her own, fully formed, tastes, personality, and most of all will. (I might have been a little TOO successful on the will part.)
A good job adds some stress to life, but the ability to pay bills on time and put a little money away for the future takes more stress out. Education plays a large part in mine, and I consider them two sides of the same coin.
I enjoy playing music as well as listening and am fairly good, though quite rusty, at piano and trumpet. I'm also, ever so slowly, trying to teach myself to play the bass guitar and hope to eventually find a band to join.
I'm male, American, and no saint: Appearance is important to me. I enjoy looking at attractive women, but would rather spend my time in study of just one. I try to see potential, and often succeed, though at times that can be a two-edged sword.
A strong personality is important. I find myself dominating conversations at times and need a woman who can express herself. If doing so involves a quick joke or subtle gesture, that's wonderful. If it requires arguing a point, that works as well. (Making up after an argument is resolved can be quite enjoyable, as well.)
I'd rather a woman have taste in music that only matches a small fraction of mine than she have no preference in what she listens to. My other interests are seldom intrusive. I need sufficient space to read a book or magazine every so often, but for the right inducement, will put either aside. (Please allow me the courtesy of marking my place. I'll be RIGHT THERE.)
