Single and looking for a long-term relationship

I'm a single 42-year old who still feel twenty-something.  I have too many interest to list here, but some of them include flying, motorcycling, sports,and many different kinds of music. I follow sports and politics, but like to take a break from them as well.
Though I certainly have my serious side, I have a goofy sense of humor that all my friends love. My biggest goal right now is to find the woman to spend my life with. I love kids and always have fun with them. I also like pets and currently have two, but have lived without them before.

I have a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. I also hold a private pilot certificate and own a single-engine four-seat airplane.
I served two terms on my local city council and have written two novels, one of which I self published.

I'm looking for someone who wants children. If she has some already that is fine, but not a requirement. I'm a very affectionate person once I get comfortable with someone, and would like her to be so as well. Education is a plus, but mainly I just want somebody smart and open-minded, so we can grow together. I have very liberal views on gender roles and fully respect women's equality, so of course I would prefer a woman who is assertive and self-respecting.
