Politics isn't just a passion, it's my life! I spent all five years of my college career simultaneously working for the Democratic Party. Now that I am a college graduate, I'm putting my degree and experience to good use, continuing my work as executive director of the Sedgwick County Democratic Party. What a great time to be a Democrat in Kansas, too! It seems that a blue tide is rising across the red prairie. After a hard fought and smartly executed campaign, we re-elected Governor Sebelius by a wide margin and threw out Phill "I'm watching your every move" Kline, electing a new Democratic Attorney General. We also re-elected all our incumbent Sedgwick County Democratic State Legislators by wide margins and gave them two new colleagues, bringing the total number of local State House Dems to 10. There's even a new Democrat on the county commission! I'm looking forward to 2007-- a year where the local Democratic Party will grow even more! A big move, recruiting and training candidates for 2008, an intense focus on fundraising, and continuing building the grassroots are all exciting challenges that lie ahead. In addition to party politics, I am also involved in the LGBT community. As president of the Kansas Democratic Party LGBT Caucus, I try to engage as many gay and lesbians as possible to become active participants in the political process. We can’t just be mad at the state of affairs-- we have to turn anger into action! We can change hearts and minds, but only with openness, honesty, and perseverance. Aside from my political work, I enjoy spending time with my awesome and always expanding circle of friends. I much more enjoy great conversation at a coffee house over dancing at a club, though form time to time I'm down for that. I also like to eat out, go to the movies, see plays, and go to community events, fundraisers and festivals. Some of my favorite places in Wichita include Riverside Park, The Vagabond, The Riverside Perk, Green Mill, The River City Brewe
Graduating from Wichita State suma cum laude and helping electing two new state legislators and a county commissioner last month are my proudest accomplishments.
I accept the fact that since I've chosen to stay in Wichita, KS, my options for dating are pretty slim. It's not that there aren't plenty of gay men in the air capitol--there just aren't any that interst me. If I'm going to make time to be with someone, It's going to be someone interesting, smart, and intelligent. Definitely someone liberal. Someone who has goals and ambitions and wants to do something meaningful with his life. Finally, someone who is strong, confidant, and independent. That's a tall order, and one I know isn't likely to be filled. As such, I've adopted the mantra espoused in the final moments of Sex and the City by the character Carrie Bradshaw-- the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself.
