I'm 48, single, never married, no kids.  Lately with trips to Ireland to do genealogy, I have a growing regret for never having devoted any time to a personal relationship.  I have focused instead on work and travel.  Though I would not change that for the world, I would love to now find someone young enough to be interested and able to start a family with me.  No offense to women my age, but I am not interested in dating, I have been quite happy leading the life of a single man.. I'm not a player by any means, but very independent.  I can see myself changing that part of my lifestyle IF it is for the purpose of finding a partner who wants to marry and have children. And, for the first time in my life, I have the means to support more than just my unpredicatable roadtrips and living life on the road.  With a condo for now, and land on which to build a home if needed in the future, if you are 20 or 30-something and not put off by the age difference, I'd like to hear from you.

I'm the guy all the girls think is a sweetheart.  I'm the "nice guy" (who finishes last).  Always the big brother, never the lover, is the description I give myself.  Can't begin to tell you why.  In my younger years I was quarterback fit at 6'2" and 210 pounds so I can't point to my physique even if I am a bigger boy now ( I just changed positions, now I would be a linebacker!).  I'm a bit quiet, but I can get rowdy when surrounded by the right crowd.  I've got a pretty wild sense of humor, was a class clown in school and still pretty much known for making my friends laugh.  I'm very honest.  Sometimes painfully so.  I don't beat around the bush, I don't play mind games, I am not politically correct.  But I am a southern gentleman as defined by my Virginian father, honest, trustworth, respectful, courteous, and generous. I'm laid back, love to travel, love photography, love rock music from the 60's to today, never got the ear for rap or hip-hop, never had the demeanor for classical, and though I love good country and blues when out at a club or concert.   My radio is usually stuck in the 70's and 80's.  My background is police work, private investigations, volunteer firefighting, and for the last decade, trucking.  College educated (Go Noles!) so I typically get complimented by people who get into conversations with me.  I guess because they have a stereotype that I should be a dumb redneck know-nothing trucker.  I get along with all ages and have enjoyed the past two years spending time with some teens who have joined our firehouse - I may not have the super-woofers in my trunk, but I don't think I embarass myself too badly when hanging out with them or my 20-ish friends at the pub! I am a penpal to an elementary school class, I am a member of Highway Watch, I just got a firefighter of the year award from my volunteer fd, AND I own my own fire truck - woo-hoo!

If I were a more attractive guy AND less picky about the importance of physical attraction, I probably would have been as typical as most of my friends and married long ago.  But as it is, what you get is a teddy bear of a guy - 6'3 and 300 pounds and the way others have gotten my attention is by meeting all three items on my 'must have' list.  Mentally, I need someone smart, someone interested in things, someone inquistive, someone who will challenge information and not be led easily.  Someone interested not only in their own lives, but the lives of others, in their community, in their nation, and across the world.  Not someone ready to debate inconsequential details such as the gross national product, but someone with an opinion on economy, politics, and social issues.  Oh, and trivia, sports, and shopping is cool too, LOL! Personality-wise, I like aggressive women.  Outgoing women.  Confident women.  I have 3 older sisters so have been raised with a respect for women and a certain expectation of them as well.  While I enjoy being the protector from time to time, I also find pride in knowing those around me are willing to venture out of their own safety zone from time to time.  OH, I'll be there to catch ya if you need it, but don't be dependant on me for everything you do. And physically, opposites attract?  Well, I'm attracted to petite women, so there is that!  I've always been drawn to cute.  To perky.  To sassy.  Shorter, slender, and a degree of sexy thrown in for good measure.  For comparison across the generations I would have been a Doris Day guy.  I was a Meg Ryan guy.  And now, maybe a Drew Barrymore type guy.  Cute, perky, sassy.
