I like to think of myself as a nice guy. Fun loving, quick with a joke, kind of a quirky sense of humor. I'm old fashioned in most ways. I most likely WILL open the door for you, so if that makes you uncomfortable...well, it's a small thing, but it reflects a lot of my attitudes. Not that women should be barefoot and pregnant, no way, nothing like that. I'm just the type who's more apt to let you wear my jacket than remind you that you should have brought your own.
I have a son who I spend a good deal of my time with. He's the most important thing in my life right now, but that doesn't mean that there isn't room for someone else. No, not at all. It just means that, once we get to know each other, he'll be around. Not all the time, by any means, but he'll be around. Don't let it worry you, though. He's very cute and very, very bright and can carry on a better conversation than most adults I know. ;) If you don't have a problem with kids, you won't have any problem with him.
I think the best thing I've ever done in my life is bringing up a child who I'm not afraid to take out into public. Yes, he's only 8 now, and I have plenty of time to screw this up, but right now he's almost better behaved in public than I am! He doesn't throw fits, he doesn't yell, and it's not because he's scared I'll beat him either. I can't take all the credit, as I have been blessed with an amazing kid, but I'm not afraid to take some of it.
If anything, this part has to be harder than telling about myself. I don't waste a lot of time dreaming about the perfect woman. All I can say is she'd have to have a sense of humor, have some brains (though maybe not a brainiac, as that can get annoying) and be aware of what's going on in the world without being an activist. I'm the type of person who likes physical contact, so she can't be afraid of the occasional PDA (but don't ask me to go after it in the lobby of the movie theater). Speaking of movies, it wouldn't hurt if she liked them, too. I mostly go for the standard guy stuff like westerns, sci-fi, horror and comedy, but it can't be brainless. But I have a deeper side, too: I think Mel Gibson's Hamlet is the best version of that play I've ever seen. He really nailed that part.
And I've been known to watch a romantic comedy or two, but don't tell anyone. This is starting to get back towards me and away from her, but it helps get the point across. Anyway, she should be comfortable in the outdoors, not afraid to get her hands dirty. Open to new things, like trying new types of restaurants, going to cultural things, generally not afraid to learn. I would really like to go to Japan some day, for instance, and would love to have someone with me who was eager to go, not just there to humor me.
