How to meet people without a bar
tab...
Obviously, I am biased. Still, I think that I'm a pretty nice guy. I try to be conscientious about other people's feelings. I value my friends above all things in life. I'm also a raging feminist, even when compared to most women. Before I started law school, I worked at the local domestic violence/sexual assault program. This gave me a lot of insight, and I learned a lot from our clients. Before that, I got a B.S. degree in Psychology.
I like to read, knit, cook, watch movies, and generally spend quality time with people I care about. I will go out with my friends and have a few drinks, but I won't drink to get drunk. I also feel bars are poor places to meet people. And that is about all Laramie has to offer. Oh, and I love to play racquetball. I would do that for hours every day if I had the time, and could find a racquetball partner who would be willing.
I am someone who has made a specific effort to make himself who he would like to be, but it's an ongoing effort. I believe everyone should try to keep growing through life. I've published one poem and one microfiction piece, but I'm not really a professional writer. At least not until I graduate law school.
Some people talk about finding themselves. I don't buy it. I think that, apart from some biological influences, we make ourselves who we are, or we allow the world to do it for us. I've always been proud that I have made a focused effort to become the man I am today. For the most part, I have achieved my goals. Of course I'm no more perfect than anyone else, and it is an ongoing process. Nevertheless, who can say that they made themselves who they are?
I suppose I'm also proud of my external accomplishments, like my success in law school. My grandfather didn't even graduate High School. Even as hard as I've worked, though, I still keep the important things in mind. I know I won't get rich, but I want to use what I learn to leave the world better than when I found it.
I would like to find a woman who is smart, articulate, conscientious, and self-aware. I'm a firm believer in separate lives in addition to a life together, so I advocate for a significant amount of alone-time in addition to the couple-time. I like a certain amount of casual physical closeness, but without being overwhelming.
I have a picture in my head of an ideal moment, where my partner and I are both on a couch reading for hours. There is no speaking, but from time to time one of us will get up and get some tea, and bring it back for the other. While we don't talk, there is still the simplicity of simply enjoying each other's company. (There may or may not be a fireplace in this picture...)
I have no use for jealousy, in myself or a partner. I see it as a symbol of possession, not of caring. I hope to find someone who is easygoing and levelheaded, someone who can roll with whatever punches life throws and come up with a smile. Irreverence and a quirky sense of humor are definitely assets.
Not to be trite, but I want a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket. Obviously a physical attraction is important, but when it comes down to it, there are a lot of physical qualities that influence it.
